Veritas Vision is a for-profit social enterprise that envisions a healthy, educated, equitable, and sustainable world where the poor have access to the resources, information, products and services they need to break out of the cycle of poverty. It is a distribution network company based in both The Netherlands and Nigeria. They envision a healthy, self-sufficient, equitable, and sustainable world for all. They contribute to this vision by bringing affordable, innovative and life-changing products to neglected people and communities in Nigeria. They think that the problems Nigeria’s urban poor and rural dwellers face are complex, so the solution needs to work on many levels. They bring those products straight to families’ doorsteps, educating customers about products and providing payment plans to make them affordable. Veritas Vision does this through a network of door-to-door sales people – their Visioneers.

Before we began to work on telling their story, we had to discover their own authentic story with Veritas Vision. We had a face-to-face “Storytelling Session” with all stakeholders and focused on specific questions to dig in to find their authentic story and tone of voice. After that “Storytelling Session”, we created a “Digital Storytelling Blue-Print” especially for Veritas Vision. This way, everything we created afterwards could reflect the authentic voice and identity of our client. After we got our story, we worked on visualisation and digitalisation of that special story. In the visualisation part we created their brand identity, logo, tone of voice, website content, deisgned and built their website, produced an animation video, designed communication materials and business cards. Lastly, we created a social media strategy, and designed social media posts and social media profiles.

Veritas Vision’s customers are the main characters of their story. At the same time their motto is “Sustainable Innovation”. That’s why we told their story through a smart, young boy who we named Ikechukwu Kabiru. It is a Nigerian name. We were inspired by many of those brilliant minds contributing to their communities by their innovations in Africa; Richard Turere, a 13-year-old inventor living in Kenya. He invented “lion lights”, an elegant way to protect his family’s cattle from lion attacks. William Kamkwamba, a 14-year-old inventor from Malawi. He built an electricity-producing windmill from spare parts and scrap; working from rough plans he found in a library book called ‘Using Energy’ and modifying them to fit his needs. Kevin Doe, a 13-year-old inventor from Sierra Leone. He taught himself engineering and built his own radio station with the materials he found in trash. He plays music and broadcasts news under the name “DJ Focus”. They are all Ikechuwku Kabiru who can achieve more if they are supported. We are aware of the fact that there are millions of nameless young innovators who have the potential to contribute their communities. Veritas Vision aims to support them with life-changing products. We are happy to be a part of this change.

Makoko is a slum neighbourhood across located on the coast of mainland Lagos, Nigeria. A third of the community is built on stilts along the lagoon and the rest is on the land. The waterfront part of the community is largely harboured by the Egun people who migrated from Badagary and Republic of Benin and whose main occupation is fishing.
In July 2012, the Lagos State government ordered that some of the stilts beyond the power-lines be brought down without proper notice. This led to the destruction of several stilts on the Iwaya/Makoko waterfront and many families were rendered homeless.
