From Grant Mechanisms Into Empowering Stories
Bumbuku Creatives had the privilege of collaborating with respected NGOs to breathe life into the Dedicated Grant Mechanism for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (DGM). Our journey involved creating an animation video, crafting three engaging clips, and carefully executing a social media campaign.
In the pursuit of raising awareness and fostering a deeper understanding of the impact of DGM, Bumbuku Creatives embarked on a creative endeavour. We conceptualised and brought to life an animation video that intricately interwove the narratives of Indigenous and local women. Through our artistic expression, we sought to illuminate the transformative change catalysed by the Dedicated Grant Mechanism.

This animated portrayal not only delves into but delicately unfolds the stories of resilient Indigenous and local communities. It places emphasis on the profound and interconnected relationship these communities share with their environment, underscoring the intricate balance that sustains the delicate ecosystems of our planet. The video, crafted with artistic finesse, not only captures the myriad challenges faced by these communities but, more importantly, serves as a compelling testament to the positive outcomes and sustainable practices that emerge and flourish with the steadfast support of the Dedicated Grant Mechanism.
Through the lens of our animation, we aim to not merely showcase the struggles but, more significantly, celebrate the triumphs and successes that arise when communities are empowered and supported. By meticulously highlighting the voices and experiences of these women, we strive to elevate and amplify the often-overlooked stories of resilience and adaptability, showcasing the profound impact of community-led initiatives in the ongoing fight against deforestation and the imperative preservation of our planet’s invaluable forests.

In essence, our animated creation stands as a powerful medium, transcending the boundaries of conventional communication, to illuminate and communicate the tangible and positive shifts brought about by the Dedicated Grant Mechanism. As advocates for environmental sustainability, we hope that, through our visually engaging storytelling, a broader and more diverse audience will be inspired to recognise, appreciate, and actively support initiatives that empower Indigenous peoples and local communities, thereby contributing to the collective endeavour of safeguarding the world’s forests for the well-being of current and future generations.

The goal of the DGM is to build capacity and empower forest-dependent communities to have a more significant role in designing and implementing forest policies and programs that impact them. It ensures that these communities lead on the program’s governance and will be the ones to set their priorities and implement programs aimed at conserving their forests and natural environment.
