Reverse The Narrative: Indigenous People for Climate Action

Bumbuku undertook the transformation of a comprehensive report campaign for the Climate Investment Funds of The World Bank to reach a wider audience. Our work included creating a report animation, crafting three shorter films highlighting represented indigenous communities, layout design of the report for print, and developing a social media campaign and its strategy.

CLIENT – CLIMATE INVESTMENT FUNDS OF THE WORLD BANK
CHALLENGE
Our challenge was to analyse the data from the report and transform it into a compelling story and animation that would be both attention-grabbing and informative.
OUTCOME
The result was a report animation, three shorter films offering glimpses into the represented communities, the layout design of the report, and a strategic social media campaign.
IMPACT
Our work aimed to raise global awareness about the immensely positive impact of Indigenous Women’s contributions to climate action and the organizations working toward their empowerment.
In the vast landscape of climate action, our client’s groundbreaking report, “Empowering Indigenous Women to Integrate Traditional Knowledge and Practices in Climate Action,” serves as a guiding compass, illuminating the invaluable contributions of indigenous communities. Beyond detailing the challenges faced by indigenous women, this document is a testament to their resilience in the face of climate-related adversities.

Bumbuku Creatives, driven by a commitment to social impact, undertook the challenge of translating this report into a visually compelling narrative that transcends conventional storytelling. Our approach goes beyond mere visualization; it encompasses a profound understanding of the cultural intricacies and significance embedded in the subject matter.

Navigating the rich tapestry of indigenous cultures, our team engaged in thorough research to ensure that every frame of our animation authentically captures the diversity of traditions, costumes, and environments. This process wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was a deliberate effort to convey the essence of indigenous communities and their pivotal role in climate action.

The MarCom Awards, hosted by the Association of Marketing & Communication Professionals (AMCP), recognized our animation’s creativity and effectiveness in a highly competitive field.

The world climate is rapidly changing, providing hardships for hundreds-of-millions of people. Some of those hit hardest are indigenous women who are also the most vulnerable. The Climate Investment Fund is one of the world’s largest and most ambitious multilateral climate finance mechanisms for developing countries seeking to shift to low carbon and climate resilient development, and to accelerate climate action. CIF turned to Bumbuku Creatives of Amsterdam to produce an animated film to highlight the plight of these women. The film is a series of brushstrokes that paint the dangers abstractly while telling a riveting story.
Marcom Awards

MarCom Awards (International Competition for Marketing & Communication Awards) is hosted by the Association of Marketing & Communication Professionals (AMCP), recognized our animation’s creativity and effectiveness in a highly competitive field. It is one of the largest and most respected creative competitions in the world, reviewing over 6,500 print and digital communication and marketing materials each year.

The MUSE Awards, a series of competitions hosted by the International Awards Associate (IAA), honour creative and design professionals’ excellence.

Being a MarCom Awards and Muse Awards winner among thousands of entries on two platforms, receiving the Best Animation Award at the Berlin Indie Film Festival, and earning a nomination for Best Short Film at the Social Change Festival fills us with unspeakable gratitude.

Knowing that our work is recognised by audiences worldwide and that the crucial message of our client’s work and efforts resonates across continents is profoundly satisfying.

We extend our gratitude to the Stakeholder Engagement and Gender Teams for their significant study and contributions to the animation production. Your impact is monumental.
